CEREC® Same-Day Crowns Peoria, AZ
You have most likely already heard of a crown. It’s a very common treatment used for restoring damaged teeth. Crowns can be made from many materials, including metal, ceramic, and porcelain. While each material provides different benefits, they do have one thing in common. They typically require two appointments. At Victor Nitu DDS, we can provide you with a perfectly natural looking crown in just one appointment thanks to CEREC.
What’s Wrong with Requiring Two Appointments?
Crowns have traditionally required two separate appointments, spaced out about two weeks apart, to place, regardless of the material chosen. This is because impressions had to be sent off to a separate lab facility so that your restorations could be made. While there is nothing wrong with this procedure, there are some major disadvantages to this process. First, you have to wear a temporary crown.
The job of this restoration is to protect the tooth until your actual crown is ready. In many cases, it is effective. In some cases, however, the temporary restoration could fall out, which can then let bacteria in. This increases your risk of infection and other problems. The other major drawback to requiring two appointments is just that. You need two appointments. You live a busy life, and extra appointments can cause significant disruption.
What Makes CEREC Different?
CEREC crowns provide you with beautifully natural ceramic crowns. The major draw to these crowns, however, is that everything is done in only one appointment. This is because we have a milling unit right in our office. The milling unit is the machine that carves your crown out of a block of ceramic. The technology is incredibly accurate and can create crowns within a discrepancy of one-thousandth of a millimeter. Additionally, the crowns will match the color, transparency, and contours of your natural teeth, aiding in providing you with a completely natural result.
The first step of creating your CEREC crown is taking a digital impression. Using this impression, we can design a custom crown right on the computer. We then send the designed crown to the milling unit. A block of ceramic is placed inside, and your crown is created. Once done, we fit it in your mouth and can make any adjustments right in the office. The process typically takes about two hours, but you don’t have to worry about additional appointments. Instead, you leave after your appointment with your smile, and oral health, beautifully restored.
Can All Crowns Be Made with CEREC?
CEREC crowns are made from ceramic. If you need or want, a metal or gold crown, the traditional method for crown placement will need to be followed, meaning that two appointments are necessary. CEREC technology can, however, be used to make other types of ceramic restorations. This includes things such as inlays, onlays, and bridges.
If you need a crown to fix a damaged tooth and improve your smile, but don’t want to deal with having two separate appointments, a CEREC crown may be the right choice for you. Call Victor Nitu DDS at (480) 536-8228 today to learn more.
